How OX IT Solutions is making a work life balance a priority

Nicola Hatton joined the OX IT Solutions team in 2016 looking for a new challenge that would also enable her to work around her family life. Since joining Nicola has developed her professional skills and taken on new responsibilities but is still able to make her schedule work around her daughter.

We spoke to Nicola to discusses how she balances her career with her personal life.

Career development

Nicola first joined us as Sales Coordinator and was responsible for placing and processing orders, entering purchase data, invoicing and following up on deliveries. She later took on the role of Office Manager as a new challenge.

Nicola said: “I’ve been at OX IT Solutions since it was first founded five years ago. It’s been amazing to watch the expansion the business has gone through. Watching the team grow has been amazing.

“Before joining the company, I didn’t have any experience with the software I use now but was able to adapt quickly. Taking on more responsibility was exciting because it gave me a chance to further develop my professional skills.”

“I now oversee the whole sales journey from the point of order right through to payment which is interesting and has helped build on my understanding of the business.

Occupation change

After completing a degree in Philosophy and Childhood Education, Nicola went on to work in admin-based role for a car sales company.

Nicola explained: “I wanted to find a job that gave me more flexibility, where I could work fewer hours and could be closer to home.

“The position here at OX IT Solutions fitted in perfectly with my family life. My daughter is at school close to the office and as my working hours are flexible, I am able to pick her up from school and work around her needs.

“The team works together closely which made it easy to learn from my colleagues. My training was predominantly on the job learning meaning I was able to jump straight into my role and really get involved.

“The whole team, from the directors to the sales staff, make it an incredibly supportive place to work. The upbeat, positive office really encourages us all to work hard and go the extra mile.”

Balancing personal and professional life

Although most of the team prefer to work in our Kidlington office, we are committed to finding accommodating solutions for all our employees. Hybrid working enables team members like Nicola to work around their personal lives.

“The best part of working at OX IT Solutions is the flexibility of my role,” said Nicola. “I do most of my hours from home but go into the office every week to touch base and do paperwork.”

During the pandemic Nicola had to juggle home schooling with her own career. Providing her with the support and flexibility to do both was a priority for the company.

Nicola said: “I’ve never had to pay for childcare as I have the flexibility to work when it suits me best. Even when I’ve had to take time off at short notice OX IT Solutions always helped me find way to work around it.”

She added: “Despite working from home most of the time, the team always make sure I am included in everything. I even have a key to the office meaning I can use the OX Gym whenever I want.”
